Beatrix

Beatrix, a quaint cafe in North Melbourne that was so inviting. Like going over to your grandma's house for tea or lunch. Filled with baked goods on the counters to tempt your sweet tooth. It's a very cosy cafe that makes you feel right at home.
Old school beaters hanging from the ceiling.
We had a Shak-In-A-Roll, Bea-L-T and the Rachael which was one of the specials of the day. The Shak-In-A-Roll is a vegetarian number but don't be fooled, its packed with as much flavour as the others.
The Rachael - Corned beef with swiss cheese and parsley and mustard slaw.
All the cakes and pies tempting us for a try.
When we finished out food, suddenly a fresh chiffon cake came flying out of the kitchen. It looked so heavenly with the passionfruit glaze dripping over the edges. We were tempted to have a try but we were a little too full for dessert. Maybe next time? But if you're there and they have the Coconut Cake, do have a try! It's soooo delicious!

Green Refectory

Green Refectory has been on my radar for quite some time now. And yesterday, I finally made a trip to Brunswick to try it out. After taking the wrong tram ending up on the opposite side, walking for an hour AND having a snack of fish and chips. We finally made it! And I must say it's worth your money and good for your taste buds too. They have an array of pastries, cakes, pies, almost anything you want! Definitely recommend Green Refectory to anyone who's in Melbourne.

Big Breakfast $15.50
Make sure you bring your appetite if you're planning to have this. Eggs, toast, baked beans, tomatoes, avocado, caramelised onions, spinach, mushrooms, bacon and haloumi (my new favourite cheese). You could choose between poached eggs or scrambled.

Vanilla Slice $3
I liked this a lot. Thick vanilla custard with puff pastry on the top and bottom with a passionfruit glaze. The passionfruit glaze just gave it that kick it needed. I'll definitely go back there to try more of their pastries. Really eager to try their Black Forest cake.

Don't you just love this door knocker? In love with the vintage and rustic feel of the cafe.

Easter Break

So my easter break wasn't the most eventful with uni work piling up and all the mid semester tests coming up. But it was a pretty good much needed break. Movie nights (finally watched The Dark Knight Rises), many grocery runs, walking aimlessly around the city and catching up with friends and family. But here's some of the moments I captured..
Had a chance to try Freddo's gelato after the Masterchef filming. Tried 6 flavours all together! Roche, honeycomb, lychee, passionfruit, vanilla crunch and baileys. All of them were pretty good! Definitely worth a try. But I still prefer Passionflower on Bourke Street.
Brought Justin for his first cafe experience at Manchester Press. I had the pulled pork with apple sauce on a sesame seed bagel. It was so delicious! I'm actually salivating thinking about it right now..
And we made a trip to the Great Ocean Road to see the 12 Apostles! A day trip which started with waking up at 6 in the morning.. But it was a nice experience seeing one of the natural wonders of the world even if it started pouring when we got to the 12 Apostles. Just our luck haha. And we got to see wild koalas! You can play spot the koala in some of the pictures. And I had a chance to become one too! HAHA.
